KASHUNAMUIT SCHOOL DISTRICT
CLICK FOR A MAGNIFICENT VIEW SCHOOL COMPLEX & DESCRIPTION
The Kashunamuit School District facilities complex originally built and operated by the
Bureau of Indian Affairs had gone through many renovations and modifications. Over
the years, maintenance records and O&M Manuals were lost and a lack of proper as-built
drawings complicated maintenance operations.
This dilemma caused low moral and extreme hardship on students, school personnel and
guests, e.g.; Frozen water & sewer pipes; Low water pressure; Muddy hot water (white
laundered clothes turned brown); Cold rooms in teacher housing and classrooms; Standby
generator and boiler failures; Improper ventilation of classrooms.
Newly appointed Superintendent of Schools Mr. Al Weinberg requested Nushagak to
perform a condition and inventory survey of the school district's maintenance facilities. The
survey resulted into a complete renovation of:
800 feet of wooden utilidors that house main heat, domestic water and sewer pipes;
400 feet of 6" sewer outfall arctic pipe to village sewer lagoon;
Oil fuel piping and Comprehensive procedures for oil tank farm operation;
Air handling units (AHU) that service the high school;
AIRHANDLERS (Page Under Construction)
Boilers that service the entire complex;
Comprehensive procedures for standby generators;
GENERATORS (Page Under Construction)
Water sand filters, storage tanks, well pump and piping;
WATER TREATMENT (Page Under Construction)
Comprehensive Operation & Maintenance Manual.
Upon completion of the above scope of work, Wayne Hill, owner of a local village store
commented: "Your company should of come to Chevak years ago to fix the school".
